“The Grape Thieves”
Design for patchwork and appliqué quilt
Most William Morris fans will recognise his famous ‘Strawberry Thief’ design, which was reproduced in the Best of Morris – Fall collection from Moda Fabrics used in this quilt. But the collection was all about the rich colours of autumn, and strawberries say ‘summer’ to me. While William and Jane Morris might’ve had thrushes stealing their strawberries, I have a pergola festooned in two grapevines, and the biggest thieves of my fruit are blackbirds, with the occasional rook and jackdaw. So this quilt became all about the fruit thieves in my garden!
