Hamadryad: Oak notecards
Folded notecards showing detail images from my 2008 work, Hamadryad: Oak.
The hamadryad is a nymph so closely linked with the tree she inhabits that should it die, she dies also.
This oak nymph is still my favourite girl. Hidden in the background behind her are three Green Men of oak and ivy.
There four choices of notecard, one showing a detail of the hamadryad’s face, and one of each of the Green Men. Or, choose a pack of all four and get a postcard showing the whole piece free!
- Pack of 4 Hamadryad: Oak notecards
Get the oak nymph and her three Green man companions along with a bonus postcard showing the work in full. 4 folded notecards with white envelopes, with 1 large postcard.
- Hamadryad’s face
When I created my oak nymph, I wanted to try to convey some of the mystery and beauty of a wild creature when you surprise it in the woods. There is that magical moment when it becomes aware of you and pauses, just for an instant, before fleeing for the safety of the undergrowth. Folded [...]
- Green Man 1
Here is the first Green Man, an oak man, hiding high up among the branches of the nymph’s tree. I always think this chap looks a bit sad… maybe he’s worried about his forest disappearing to make way for a new housing estate? Folded notecard supplied with white envelope. Blank inside.
- Green Man 2
Green Man 2 is an English ivy Green Man, peering over the shoulder of the hamadryad. She’s so closely linked with him that you can see his marks growing up her back. He looks rather smug, I think, and I guess that’s because ivy is a tough survivor that adapts to growing on buildings as [...]
- Green Man 3
This is the third Green Man, tucked down low beneath the nymph’s elbow. He’s another oak Green Man, and most people miss him when they view the whole piece. Maybe that’s why he’s a little mischievous and is sticking his tongue out at them. Folded notecard supplied with white envelope. Blank inside.
