Dryads sketchbook

The Dryads sketchbook began simply as a book for “folklore and faery tale, magic and myth”; it was the sketchbook I was starting when I first realised I could use my fascination for these things as inspiration for my work in textiles.

So, initially when I prepared pages all through to get the creative juices flowing, they ranged all over from trees and flowers to the elements of earth, air, fire and water – you can see that both those things actually needed sketchbooks all their own for more development. The trees and Green Men here morphed this book into one all about dryads and hamadryads, but the elements moved into their own book later, the Elemental sketchbook.

I’ve included some of the pages that went into the development of Hamadryad: Oak, as well as a couple later in the book that you can see don’t really fit that theme – but sketchbooks tend to be fluid and sometimes don’t end up where you thought they would!

I will continue to use this sketchbook as I work on the other three planned pieces of the Hamadryads series: Hazel, Willow and Holly.
