Yay you’re back.
I must agree New Year’s Eve can be a bit of a bore. I’ve had some good ones recently – had a meal with friends and then up to the market sqaure with a bottle of bubbly to celebrate with lots of people from the village. Some have been awful – but I’ve chosen to erase them from my mind.

Fi, I love your description of depression. (Have you read any of John McManamy’s articles? I read this one before I was diagnosed with dysthymia – and I’m glad I did! http://www.mcmanweb.com/dysthymia.html)

I like the animal metaphor. I’m not sure mine could be a cat. I often think it’s more like a lion eyeing me from an uncomfortable distance, calculating the exact moment it can pounce on me and devour me for lunch. But, perhaps with an animal metaphor, I can talk to it…perhaps tame it. I’ll give it a try. Thanks so much for this idea!

Thanks for posting this. I suffer from a severe case of #1, a much milder-than-yours version of #2, and a twist on #3 that has to do with everlastingly defining myself and what I do and what I want to do. I love that you’re laying these out on the table as a means of not having them trip you up anymore. (Mixed metaphors, anyone?)

P.S. My perfectionism extends to comments on other people’s blogs, too, which in the past has kept me from commenting at all. Lately I’ve been practicing “good-enough commenting.” So far it hasn’t killed me.
